It shows that you don't need to be #1 or even on page 1 to get a reasonable income. I wouldn't have thought that if I hadn't experienced it myself. My garden site has reached half way up page 1 with few backlinks, but my new steam irons site is nowhere - bit more competitive than I thought so it's definitely a case of needing to build quite a lot of backlinks That’s still a pretty good result. That's why I slowly started to add some articles and a blog. It's doing ok though, averaging 100+ uniques a month and earning between £150 and £200 a month. It would be a gold mine if it was on page 1. I have another site with the same theme which is on page 2 for one keyword and page 1 position 3 for another. And the keywords are just as competitive but my backlinks are much better, so maybe its the back links that are more important!
