How I made money selling books on Amazon

My first foray into ecommerce was selling books on Amazon.

I had been made redundant from my job and with a family and a huge mortgage, I was desperate to raise some money. I have always enjoyed reading non fiction and had built up quite a library so I struck upon the idea of selling some of my books online.

After a little research I listed my first few books on Amazon and was surprised at how quickly they sold. I thought – “hey it’s not bad this”. My books were selling as fast as I could list them and the extra money really helped out with paying the bills.

Eventually I ran out of books to sell but I didn’t want to give up this extra income stream so I decided to start scouting my local charity shops for more titles.

A few months later and I was selling around 300 second hand books a week and earning a nice little income. Don’t get me wrong, it was VERY hard work, but when your desperate for money it’s a case of beggars can’t be choosers.

I had the business down to a tee and it was possible for me to earn between £300 and £400 per week, working from my garage at home. Yipee things were looking up!

Unfortunately due to a messy split with my ex wife, My business was not a priority and I let it dwindle away. I lost my main suppliers and moving out of the family home meant that I had nowhere to keep my stock.

It was a real shame because it was a nice little business I had.

I havn’t gone into the details of the business, but if anybody would like any advice on setting up a second hand book business then I am more than happy to share my secrets.
